BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOUR - THE VIEW FROM HANSON

The Melbourne Arboretum shares its western boundary with the Hanson Wollert Quarry and Renewable Energy Landfill, defining Hanson as a neighbour.  While most people would not consider a major infrastructure facility a commendable nearby resident, strong community stakeholder relationships are integral to Hanson’s endeavour to be a responsible corporate citizen and a sustainable business.

Working with the McDonell family and their team, Hanson is now providing an annual sponsorship of the Melbourne Arboretum, as well as revegetation and fencing of Darebin Creek, support for the establishment of a native vegetation nursery, and a regular supply of water.

All of these activities complement the operational changes Hanson has introduced such as phytocapped landfill cells that use locally sourced soil, indigenous grasses, trees and shrubs; the array of solar panels that generate 100KW power; and hosting bee hives for rescued bees providing a sustainable response to the declining bee population.

Hanson is proud to reach over the fence and support a neighbour.
